Kevin opened the meeting at 12:30pm.  Father Lou led us in prayer and the pledge to the flag.

 

Sixteen and two guests enjoyed  meat loaf, fries and fresh fruit.

 

The minutes were accepted.

 

No financial report.

 

Our guest speaker was Christ Ryer, President & CEO of CDC.  He said that Highlandtown is the only neighbourhood in the City that has shown growth outside of Center City. The main reason is the immigration from Central America. The Corporation is working to increase and improve residential housing, beautification of neighborhoods and streets, develop businesses, arts and culture and develop intergenerational programs.

 

The Police and Fire Captains will be at our April 11, 2012 Recognition Banquet.

 

Our Golf Fundraiser will be at Pine Ridge on June 26, 2012. It will begin at 8am with a shotgun start.  Coffee and donuts  in the morning with lunch after the last hole followed by the raffle.

 

Herbie was the horn-tooter. He fined Charmaine, Steve and John S.  He collected $3.50.

 

Bill won the 50-50.

 

The meeting ended at 1:30pm.

Exchange Club Minutes 01.18.2012

January 20th, 2012

 

Kevin opened the meeting at 12:33pm. Father Lou led us in a prayer and the pledge to the flag.Eighteen members and six guests enjoyed a grilled ham and chicken sandwich, fries and pineapple upside down cake.

The report was accepted.

Bernie inducted Alex van Breukelen into the Club. Bernie gave his pocket book history of the Club and the meaning of Exchange - Giving of yourself to make a better community with expecting nothing in return.

Mary Jo Ashburn introduced Billy Wineholt, our District President; Anne Marie Logue, our National Treasure; and Sid Mobley, our National President.

President Mobley is very much a people person. He makes a big effort to visit Clubs all over the country. His home State is Texas. He brought Resolutions with a Gold Seal Expressing Thanks and Appreciation for each member who had 25 or more years of service in the Club. He talked about the National Projects for Americanism, Youth and Prevention of Child Abuse. We were certainly honored by his visit. Kevin thanked our guests for their visit.

Several members were celebrated for their years of service to the Exchange Club.

Kevin said a committee was set up to assist in planning/running the golf fundraiser or replacing it with an alternate event. A decision will be made by next week. The committee members are Joe, Herb, Dan, Mary Eve, Jack, and Bill. Another committee for future happy hours/ membership drives was developed. It includes Brian, Dan and Mary Eve.

Jim Kraft will be our speaker next week.

One of our guests won the 50-50 for $24.

Exchange Club Minutes 12.14.2011

December 20th, 2011

Today we had a Christmas Luncheon , Party and   Sing Along.  We had a great attendance.

There were a few announcements. The police department picked up a paddy wagon full of toys we collected in the Square last Saturday.  We made over $3500 on our Taste of Our Community Raffle.  Mary Eve sold the two winning tickets. Barbara Hoban for $500  and Al Simmons for $350.  We will be meeting at Our Lady of Pompei Church at 9:30am on Tuesday, December 20 to assemble food baskets for the Joy Of Giving.  

Wednesday ,January 11,2011 will be our next meeting.

December 9th, 2011

Kevin opened the meeting at 12:30pm.  Father Lou us in a prayer and the pledge to the flag.

 

Sixteen members and three guests enjoyed meatloaf on toast, fries and fresh fruit.

 

The minutes were accepted.

 

December 7, 2011 is the 70th anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor.  Bob Larkin, a long time member , joined the Navy a few days after he graduated at the age of 17.  He told us that he served as a crew member on an airplane which patrolled the coast of China. We thank him for all of the service he had done during the war.

 

Bernie inducted Pastor Mark Parker as a new member.

 

Mary Jo Ashburn mentioned  to us some of the problems with leadership at the National and District level.  She has arranged to have the National President to visit us at our meeting on January 18, 2012.

 

Larry told us that The Gilman Choir will not be singing for us because they got an invitation to the White House.  There will be other entertainment.  If you are bringing a group and you  have not told Norbert, Michael or me, let Michael Clark know so he can move us to a larger room. The party will start at noon.

 

Remember we are having the Joy of Giving at 9:30 on Tuesday, December 20 at Our Lady of Pompei.

 

This Saturday from 10 to 2 we will be collecting toys in the Square.

 

Steve was the horn tooter. He collected 90 cents.

 

Bernie won the 50-50 for $19.

Fifteen members and two guests enjoyed steak on a roll with juice, fries and cheese cake.

Kathy Harget, the Executive Director of the Friends of Patterson Park was our guest speaker. She said that a core team of volunteers started in the mid-90’s to change the park from a place you would not want to go to an asset to the whole community.  She talked about all of the capital improvements, about the gardens, the plantings, and programs that have made the area a great place to live.  She thanked us for our continued support.

 

Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at 9:30am at Our Lady of Pompeii Church we will be assembling food baskets for the Joy of Giving.

 

Last year we earned $3,000 from our Taste of the Community Raffle.  We hope to greatly increase the  amount this year. If you know an owner who would be willing to give a $50 gift certificate or you  would like to donate one it would be great.  They must be turned in by next week.

 

On December 10, 2011 from 10 to 2 Santa will be in the Square.  We will be decorating and collecting  toys.

 

Last Monday a week  Norbert passed out while he was walking at the Mall.  He had a blockage in his leg. He spent four days in the hospital. He is doing well and was at our meeting.

 

Larry suggested we take $5,000 out of our Charity Fund and put it into the Scholarship Fund in name of Fred Gross who was a member for over 60 years.

 

Bernie was the horn-tooter. He fined Bob and Brian for being too loud and gave  all 50 cents to the Friends of Patterson Park.

 

Walt’s guest won the 50-50 for $ 17.

Kevin opened the meeting at 12:30pm. Norbert led us in a prayer and the pledge to the flag.

 

Fourteen member enjoyed tuna melts, fries, pasta salad and white chocolate bread pudding.

Many members spoke in favor of having the Club donate a Freedom Shrine to St. Casmir’s School. The suggestion was made it could be to tied to the 1812 celebrations next year.  If you are interested in joining a committee to explore these suggestion you can let Kevin know.  The Club selected in their absence Steve George and Brian Dunne to co-chair the committee.

 

Gift Certificates for restaurants will be accepted up until  tomorrow, Friday, October 28.

 

Members are welcome to make a donation to the Scholarship Fund in the name of Fred Gross.

 

$5000 will be taken from the Charity Fund and put into the Scholarship Fund in the name of Fred Gross.

 

We need help in decorating the Square for December 10th.  We need a lot of wrapped boxes.

 

Norbert is now back in good health and doing well.

 

Dr. Thomas let us know how you are doing.  We have not heard from you in awhile.

Kevin has arranged speakers for the next three weeks.

 

Will’s daughter-in-law Julie E. Wilcox passed on Monday, October 31.  The viewing will be on Thursday from 3-5 and 7-9 at Schimunek Funeral Home in Belair.  A Mass of
Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mark’s Church ,Fallston, on Friday at 12 noon.

 

John Vontran’s  Father has passed.

 

Members of the club have donated $650 to the Scholarship Fund in the name of Fred Gross.  Anyone else who would like to contribute can see Norbert.

 

Norbert is selling grapefruit and oranges for the Boy Scouts. The cost is $18  ½ crate and  $34 full crate.

Kevin opened the meeting at  12:30pm. Pastor Mark Parker of the Breath of God Lutheran Church led us in a prayer and the pledge to the flag.

 

Thirteen members and two guests enjoyed shish kebob, fries, pasta salad, and brownies with ice cream.

The report was accepted.

 

Pastor Mark Parker talked about the Lutheran Ministries.  They work for improvement of health and social well being of the community.  The donation we gave last year helped to provide 308 children with back to school supplies. He thanked us for our generosity.

 

Alex van Breukelen also spoke. He is an active duty Marine who will be discharged in 13 days and is the owner of the Americana, a new bar and restaurant in Canton.  He has been in the marines for  13 years and spent most of his time overseas doing counter intelligence. He now is working with non-profits to assist veterans.  He is also involved in a clean-up project in the Oliver Community.  He wants to give back to the community especially to the younger vets.

 

We have gotten the password for our website, so hopefully we will be up and running soon.

 

Mary Eve informed us there are a lot of sales on toys. Be sure to buy some for our Toy Drive.  Remember the more Taste of The Community Tickets we sell the more we have for our charities.

 

All members are invited Claremont’s Thanksgiving Luncheon on Friday, November 18 at noon.  This will be a thank you to the Club member for their support. Please let me know next Wednesday if  I can reserve a place for you.

 

Dr. Frank Thomas is having surgery on Monday. Please remember him in your prayers.

 

Larry had knee surgery last Monday and he is doing great.

 

Mary Eve fined everyone. She said the whole group was way too loud. She collected $3.30.

Our speaker, Maria Aldana is the Outreach Coordinator of the Creative Alliance at the Patterson.  She shared with us the monthly programs that are performed by various artists at the Patterson. They involve 1,000 kids a year in there activities. They have free programs for families. Open Minds is an after school program of kids.  They have 1,400 members.

 

Maria  also talked about using a national model called Communities for All Ages, a team of community members of different generations who are changing the way residents interact and connect to create positive neighborhood change.

 

Norbert reported 800 tickets out, 1,500 printed, and 150 sold.

 

Remember all members we will meet at Our Lady of Pompeii on next  Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at 9:30am for the Thanksgiving Baskets.

 

Carol said that Frank will be coming home from the hospital tomorrow.

 

Mary Eve fined Walt, Bernie, and Will for various infractions.

We observed a moment of silence in memory of Dr. Frank Thomas a long time member of our Club who died on this past Sunday.

 

Fifteen members and three guests  enjoyed the traditional Thanksgiving dinner.

This is the first announcement that Pastor Mark Parker and Alex van Breukelen have applied to be members.

 

Derek gave a special thank you to Herbie who provided the truck to haul all of the food from Santoni’s.

 

Steve suggested that we have someone at Santonis to count food items before the truck is loaded so the count is correct next year.

 

Thanks to Steve, Ron and his wife Mary Lou, and Father Lou who stay to the end giving out food.

 

There was also a thank you to Claremont School students and another group of students who I guess were from the school next to the church.

 

There was someone who said he has a picture of Brian carrying a box. But he didn’t have the picture.

 

The last meeting in December is the 14th.

 

The Guide is going to print a ¼ page ad of our poster advertizing our Toy Drive in the Square.  Derek is going to provided wrapped Christmas boxes.
